BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONS CODE U.S. Congress Authorizes Addition of a Commemorative Plaque to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial | News & Links |
Through Public Law 106-214, Congress authorized the American Battle Monuments Commission to erect, within the existing 13-acre site of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, a commemorative plaque honoring those veterans who died after their service during the Vietnam War but as a result of that service, and whose names are not otherwise eligible for placement on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. The design, inscription and sitting of the plaque has been approved by the National Capital Memorial Commission, the Commission of Fine Arts and the National Capital Planning Commission. The memorial plaque will consist of a 2x3 foot gray granite plaque, to be set flush into an extension of the existing plaza where the Three Servicemen statue stands, with views toward the Wall and the Vietnam Women's Memorial. The inscription will read: IN MEMORY OF THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED IN THE VIETNAM WAR AND LATER DIED AS A RESULT OF THEIR SERVICE WE HONOR AND REMEMBER THEIR SACRIFICE. The authorizing legislation specifies that the plaque be funded by private donations. Contributions in the form of checks or money orders should be made payable to "ABMC V V M Plaque" and mailed to:
