The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. David W. Johnson, 37, of Portland, Ore., died Sept. 25 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle. Johnson was assigned to the Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry Regiment, Cottage Grove, Ore.

The incident is under investigation.
