The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Manny Hornedo, 27, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died June 28 in Tikrit, Iraq, where a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV while conducting convoy operations. Hornedo was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1569th Transportation Company, New York, N.Y.
